Truth or Drink: Rules and Question Ideas

Truth or Drink strips out the "dare" half of Truth or Dare and replaces it with a drink, which makes it faster, easier to run with a big group, and better suited to a deep, slightly unhinged conversation. One player asks a question; the person answering either tells the truth or takes a drink to skip it.
How to play Truth or Drink
- Pick an order: clockwise around the group works fine.
- The player to the left of the current answerer asks a question.
- The answerer chooses: answer honestly, or drink and skip.
- Play passes to the next player, who becomes the new answerer.
- Agree on a house rule for follow-up questions: allowed once, or not at all.
For friends
"What's the pettiest reason you've ever stopped talking to someone?" "What's a lie you told that got way out of hand?" "What's something you're secretly proud of that you'd never admit out loud?"
For couples
"What's something I do that you've never told me bothers you?" "What was your first impression of me, honestly?" "What's one thing you want us to try that we haven't?" Couples versions work best with a no-judgment rule agreed on before the first question.
Setting the intensity
Start every session with a few throwaway questions before moving into anything personal: it establishes the tone and gives everyone a sense of how far the group is willing to go before a question actually matters. Groups that jump straight to the hardest questions tend to see everyone default to drinking instead of answering, which defeats the point.
